PSDI conducted a social impact survey to (a) gain an understanding of what it is like, from the residents perspective, to live near an active quarry/pit; (b) to determine if and how an operating quarry/pit may affect residents’ way of life and their community; and (c) gain an understanding of how local residents’ and quarry/pit operators address and resolve any issues or concerns regarding operations.
It is our hope that the results of this study will be of value to municipalities, quarry and pit operators, and community residents in making future decisions with respect to the approval processes for quarries/pits, as well as to improving some of the operational and communication issues between residents and operators.
